Plate Tectonics-

Earth Science 3.1- Major geologic events such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, mid-ocean ridges, and mountain formation are associated with plate boundaries and attributed to plate motions (Colorado Department of Education, 2009).

Answer this question before beginning this unit:

Why do some countries have mountains and not others?

Please add any artifact that you believe would answer the unit questions. Suggestions for artifacts are: images from labs or your textbook, clips from your notebook, sound clips with your reflections, digital stories created during this unit, really anything that demonstrates that you understand how to answer the question. Be creative and have fun! Show what you know!

  1. What evidence supports the theory of plate tectonics? (SC.09-GR.7-S.3-GLE.1; IQ.2)
  2. What are the constructive and destructive forces associated with volcanoes? (SC.09-GR.7-S.3-GLE.1)
  3. How does the movement of plates affect life on Earth? (SC.09-GR.7-S.3-GLE.1-EO.b; IQ.3)
  4. How does the movement of tectonic plates cause natural hazards? Would these hazards still exist if the tectonic plates did not move? (SC.09-GR.7-S.3-GLE.1-EO.c; RA.1)
